Sunday 5th July
We went to a BBQ at the Navigation last night and it was packed with people, but we managed to get a table outside on the terrace. The pub is on the canalside and you can moor here if you are using the pub, which is fine on a lunchtime but I wouldn't fancy being moored here on a night as it would be too noisy for us.The food was good and there was quite a good choice Kev & Sam had cheeseburgers & I had a chicken kebab, there was salad, coleslaw and potatoe salad for you to help yourself. After we had eaten we had a walk back to the boat and got Buster on his lead and went in the opposite direction to one of the other pubs near the canal(close to Barrow deep lock)The Boat pub was busy too, lots of people outside, there was plenty of seating and Sam met a few lads and had a good time with them. There is a large caravan site at barrow deep lock so I expect that a lot of the people at the pub were from there.
We got up this morning and we decided that we would move on today,so I put a wash on and once it had finished about 10.30am, I put a second one on then we let go and headed to the lock.Kev & Sam went off to get the lock ready and as I got to it there were 2 boats coming up so that was good and also there was a boat coming behind me.It was a man on his own (well he had a dog but I don't think that counts eh!)On leaving the lock we once again we were on the river Soar and had a lovely meandering cruise to Kegworth and have to say it is the first time we have been on this river and have so far we are not disappointed. There were a lot of boats out and about but not as busy as we had expected. We moored up on a stretch were I was able to get my clothes on the line and dried!(have it to bloody iron now)Just round the bend is Kegworth deep lock. It was still a lovely day so Kev got the BBQ out (first time this trip)but I have to say Sam cooked the food and did a great job.The forecast for tomorrow is showers so it looks like waterproofs at the ready!!We will be heading to Shardlow.
